Thousands of Sacramento County voters did everything right: they filled out their ballots and sent them in. But some of those ballots are now on hold because of a signature problem, and they won’t be counted unless the voter takes one more step. We need your help reaching those voters before time runs out.
What is ballot curing?
Before a mail-in ballot is opened, the county compares the signature on the envelope with the one in the voter’s registration record. If the envelope wasn’t signed, or the signature doesn’t match, the ballot is set aside until the voter confirms it’s theirs by signing and returning a short statement to the county.
That fix is called “ballot curing.” It’s a normal, routine part of California’s vote count. But many voters never notice the county’s notice, or don’t understand what it means, and their ballots go uncounted. In Sacramento County, the deadline to return a cure statement is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2026.
We need volunteers
The Sacramento County Republican Party is organizing a ballot curing effort to contact Republican voters whose ballots have been flagged and help them get their statements in on time. In close local races, a few hundred cured ballots can decide the outcome. Whether you can give a few hours or a few days, your time will make a real difference.
What volunteers can expect
- Reaching out to voters by phone, text, or door-to-door to let them know their ballot needs attention
- Explaining the process in plain terms and walking voters through their options for returning the statement: online, by email, fax, mail, or in person
- Following up with voters until their statement is returned
- Training and materials provided before you start, so no experience is necessary
- Flexible shifts from right after Election Day through November 25, including options you can do from home
Volunteers never fill out or sign a statement for a voter. Only the voter can do that. Our job is to make sure they know about it and have what they need.
